Ryukyu Swirl
“Ryukyu Swirl” - 2020
The patterns are inspired by okinawan textile, nature, and culture. I drew the movement/flow of the wind and waves into “Swirl”. The color is Ryukyu Indigo Blue.
Minsa Pattern
Minsa (Minsah) is a type of traditional Okinawan textile that developed about 400 years ago. A Minsa pattern consists of four and five small rectangles. These rectangles represent eternal love, however in this modern day this iconic textile is used as “forever happiness”.
Birds
“Tori Guwa” means “a bird” in Okinawan and this pattern is from traditional textile. In Ryukyu Kingdom, the little birds were regarded as messengers of God.
